Prior to this stuck-at-home lifestyle we've all had to grow accustomed to, I, too, once had a proper productive routine: wake up, wash up, buy a bit of breakfast at 7-eleven and walk for about 10 to 15 minutes to arrive on campus for my classes, have a jolly time with my blockmates for lunch, rehearse for our university musicals and whatnot, and on the way home I might grab some groceries and snacks. I had assignments, gatherings to attend to, social responsibilities.. The list goes on.

Fast forward, I have now been laying on the couch for about 5 months, daydreaming about the days when I still had a social life outside of all this and deadlines to catch up to. I would say there's quite a lot of us who have too much time on their hands especially now since quarantine started over a few months ago. It's definitely been a challenge for a couch potato like me and many others to find the motivation to be productive. I mean, I had all these plans and now I have an empty 2020 planner.

Well, an advantage to all of this free time would be all the time we can spend watching YouTube. I've found some YouTubers who are continuously finding ways to live their best lives despite the current circumstances. Here's a list of wholesome and ~aesthetically pleasing~ YouTubers that have actually inspired and motivated me to get off of my couch to live like the main character of a coming of age film like I've always wanted:

  1. Dustin Vuong (https://www.youtube.com/c/DustinVuong)

    • The epitome of a soft boy comes in the form of our Vietnamese-American Dustin Vuong who dances in his humble yet incredibly well-decorated bedroom while dressing up and artistically films his life like a realistic coming of age film. Have I mentioned that he's also pretty talented at singing too? My favorite video of his would definitely be "the romanticized idea of high school but irl.

  2. Jenn Im

  • Jenn Im is a Korean-American female icon on YouTube, formerly more known for her fashion-focused videos and is now a lifestyle vlogger with videos about what she eats in a day, top-notch book reviews and the like. She is not afraid to tell us about the negative things in life that she's experienced and turns them into lessons for us. A current favorite video of mine from her would be "A Day In My Life In Quarantine." and “Becoming a BOSS”

3. Cari Cakes

  • Cari Cakes is an American redhead living her best life in Seoul, South Korea. She is the human embodiment of summer, spring and autumn combined. Her videos usually consist of vlogs with her spending her weekends roaming around the city and the countryside of South Korea with some awesome music playing in the background. I have a playlist filled to the brim with a lot of her videos since I've been planning to visit all these places she'd gone to! "Spending the Day Home Alone with My Favorite Film Characters" is my current favorite vlog from hers.

4. 냥숲Nyangsoop

  • So cottagecore is a certain aesthetic that's been gaining some popularity recently and  I have to say it's a lifestyle I aspire to have. Well, this girl literally lives in the forest! Nyangsoop is a Korean female YouTuber with the most visually pleasing ASMR-ish vlogs of her cooking, baking and everything all in her wonderful wooden family home in the forest. My favorite vlog of hers would be the one titled "Daily Forest VLOG, New things."

5. Gabie Kook

  • You may recognize Gabie Kook as the top 2 chef in Master Chef Korea back in 2014 or as the lovely wife of Josh from Korean Englishman, BUT did you know she has a YouTube channel of her own too? Fun and aesthetically pleasing vlogs of her cooking home as well as baking (sometimes with friends too!). I definitely suggest watching her videos as they're just as professionally great as she is. Just don't watch them on an empty stomach. "What I Eat In A Day: Gordon Ramsay's fish n chips, Quesadilla, Mango Coconut, Hulk Smoothie" could be a great start to watching more of her.

My planner's actually being put to use again since I constantly find inspiration from videos and I've rediscovered my drive to pursue a more positive and productive routine once more. While I still cannot step outside as much anymore and be with my loved ones, this could be a better time than any to connect with ourselves for the time being. Let's all live our best lives here and now!
